Mukuru Design Unitは日本とケニアに拠点をおきながら、ケニア首都ナイロビのインフォーマル居住地の一つであるムクル地区にて、子どもの学びをサポートするための空間のデザインを行うグループです。
地域を理解しながら小さなアクション(small)を起こし、それを検証しながら活動を柔軟に変化させ成長させていく事(transition)、またムクル近隣から海外に至る様々な人や組織、サービスと連携しながら活動をすること(associated)を目指しています。
単なる作り手、支援者、調査者といった単一的な存在ではなく、当事者ー外部者、作り手ー使い手といった多義的な主体でありたいと考えています。
Mukuru Design Unit is a group that does spatial design to support learning of children at Mukuru district, one of the informal residential areas in Nairobi, Kenya. Our activities are based in Japan and Kenya.
Our activities aim to take “small” actions with understanding on the area, make some “transition” and improvement on the activities by examining past actions, and conduct activities with “associated” diverse people, organizations, and services, from ones at the neighborhood of Mukuru to ones abroad.
Hopefully, as a multi-faceted actor, we can sustain perspectives of potentially conflicting parties, such as an insider and an outsider, or a designer and a user, instead of simply being a builder, an aid provider, or a surveyor.
